Missionary week

Email #22
Area: Cosmo City
Companion: Elder Perez

Hey Everyone,

What a great week and it went really fast this one. Sunday was really sweet yesterday. It was missionary oriented and everything was pretty much done by the missionaries. My companion and I spoke in sacrament, the other Elders blessed the sacrament, we conducted and taught the combined with the priesthood and relief society! It was just about missionary work and to encourage the people of the ward to really focus on missionary and get the missionaries people to teach. So now we really are going to start picking up in a few weeks with finding some new people. Already yesterday when we went to a lunch appointment to sisters came over to the members home to chat with her and we got return appointments with both of them for this coming week. The work is really picking up in this area. In the entire zone our district is doing the best with investigators at church, people on date for baptism, and for the most investigators progressing. So the lord is really helping us with that. We don't go looking for recognition. Just like Christ he did it freely out of the charity of his heart to just bring the knowledge to those that do not have it. There are people out there that are the lost sheep of the fold and it is up to us as missionaries and members to go and retrieve those lost sheep and bring them back into the fold.

The members are really great better than you can ask for, but they are just being the members they know they need to be. Every Sunday they feed us and that is really nice of them, I feel so loved hahah!!! The investigators are good. There are many of them that are not baptized because they are together, but not yet married and if they live together they need to be married and have been trying to get it figured out for awhile. The way they get married over here is really weird, they have to pay the parents. It's called Labola and without it, they do not have permission from the wife's parents to marry. It's different you pay to marry your wife, but I am glad we don't do that because they say it is very expensive. Don't worry about the cheetahs, it was tamed and very safe it has been raised in that facility so it was the nicest thing ever. It was so cool I never thought I would in my entire life get to see a life size cheetah and get to pet it and just be close enough to do so.

Today I ready in Jacob 5 of the Book of Mormon the longest chapter in the Book of Mormon. But it plainly speaks about the Lord and the servant of the Lord and the work that he is doing to help bring up his vineyard. We are the servants and we need to help Him in making his vineyard get rid of the bad trees producing the bad fruit and to graft in the new branches to help the trees or the people to produce good fruit.

Hey Everyone,

I haven't had to use the rain jacket too much lately when it is raining really hard, we usaully have the car but it is doing okay. Last week we had 10 lessons, but we are going to have more this week hopefully. The last area was great, but I'm here to make this area better and its going good so far just little at a time.

Be obedient and do what you are suppose to do and there is nothing else that you can do to change anything. If that's all you do then the Lord won't hold us accountable. Just do our best is all we can do. Don't stress yourself out too much and don't run faster than you have strength. Powerful words from Elder Holland. Love you and take care have a good week.

Met a Man, Funny Video, Rain

Email #20
Area: Cosmo City

Hey Everyone,

Another week came and gone just like that! Not too much has happened this week just the same old same old. haha but the work is going good. We are trying our best and that's all that God asks of us. As long as we are doing what we are supposed to be doing then there is nothing to worry about and know that He is working in His own time.

Being prepared is the best way to know that what ever thing that He places before you that you will be able to overcome that thing. We do not know what lies before us as long as we are prepared there is nothing to fear. If we have faith, He will provide a way and prepare a way for us to accomplish the thing that He has commanded us to do.

I am in a car now and we walk every other day. We share a car with 2 other missionaries that are in an area next to ours. There is Cosmo 1 and 2. We don't have bikes so we get to walk which is definitely nice. We came in contact with a man about 45 and was a former Apostle of the 12 Apostolic church one that had formed in the days of apostasy. But anyways he seems very interested. He had something happen to him where he came very close with God. He didn't share his experience but apparently in the church that he was in he couldn't go to the hospital that if anyone was sick or anything even bleeding to death they couldn't go the the hospital. They had to use the "holy water" that you could only get from the church. Just another way to get money. He has a wife and kids I think so it's a father led family which is always good, we love families!!

It rains like a sucker here. Holy cow I have never seen so much rain. It has been raining not stop for like a week straight and it stopped and even now it is raining hard as ever. It needs it here, they have not to much water its Africa so yeah much is needed.

New Companion, Zone conference and a challenge

Email #19
Area: Cosmo City
Companion: Elder Perez

Hey Everyone,

Another week gone by. Not too fast, but a Monday is here. A lot has changed but its part of what we do in this life, change we just have to get used to and know that it is going to happen. We just had a Zone conference and it was really great to see a lot of the Elders I haven't seen in awhile. The area is a little difficult at times, because we don't know much of the area and where every investigator lives but we are managing because of God. He really does help us with our stress and gives us comfort and peace. We talked to this Less Active this past week and she said she is waiting for a sign. She said she knows the Book of Mormon is true, Church is true, but won't come to church.

We live by the North gate mall and area really needs some work. Still eating sandwiches and we eat pizza and we went to this way good Mexican place last week it was so good!!! It's different with a companion that is really old on mission sometimes it does get hard, because he talks about home a ton and he goes home in October, so I will be a year when he goes home. He is from Colorado and is 16 months on mission and is a district leader. He is a great teacher and knows the Bible really well, which comes in handy with these people because that is all they know. The great thing is we had 10 investigators at church yesterday and that was a huge thing and mostly because that the chapel/canisters are in our area haha. If you look, the chapel are metal storage containers, but nothing is different about the spirit you feel let me tell you that.

Mission President told us at Zone conference to do a challenge. The 86 day Book of Mormon reading challenge. We started yesterday and will finish June 2. So I challenge all to join in and it is 6 pages a day. Not a race but to really gain a testimony and really know that it's true. Mark passages that stand out to you "answers to the soul" About the Atonement and the mission and life of Jesus Christ. It's not to see how fast you can read but how much you get out of reading it. Its what you put in, is what you are going to get out. Pray before you read and ask that the Spirit will attend you as you read.

2 Nephi 31:3
Read this passage and you will understand the purpose of reading with a purpose. Where much is given, much is required. Never lose you your faith, never doubt your faith, believe in your faith and never lose hope.

Emergency Transfers

Email #18
Area: Cosmo City
Companion: Elder Perez

Hey Everyone,

A lot has changed in just a few days. I am now in another area. Really stressful, I had to pack and do everything in one night. I moved on Thursday to here, I found out Wednesday morning during personal study. But everything worked out really well and no worries now. Pres called and said that some changes needed to happen and I was part of an Emergency Transfer which is not fun at all. Unfortunately it was short notice and can't go to all the people you want to say goodbye to, but all is well now and I am loving the new area so far. It is hard to say bye to the old area with all the people that I had to say bye to it was like saying bye to the fam again. I was really close with a group of kids. The new area is called Cosmo City another township. Right outside of Joburg. Members are so great here they can fellowship and the chapel is very different. They are just 3 containers that work well enough for the chapel. The spirit does not change at all no matter the place or area the spirit is always there. Elder Perez is my new companion and is a District Leader. He is 16 months on mission and goes home in October so I will be a year when he goes home.

I found out where my girlfriend will be serving and that just relieved the stress right off my shoulders and into joy and happiness. I am proud and excited that she will join with US as President Utchdorf has said come Join With Us. This work is the only way that we will have eternal joy and to know that you will one day meet these people again makes it that much more worth it. The church is true and the Book is blue haha just kidding, but really take action and know that this is the true church of God here on the earth and he is building his kingdom preparing us for His son to once again come and reign over the earth and to continue on in the this great and marvelous work.
